He also left me his business when he passed away, so I already had a clientele. ![]() I am lucky in that my dad was a tuner for 30 years and taught me. Whether you can make a living at it depends on a couple things:Ģ) How many other established tuners there are in your area.ģ) How many potential clients there are in your area. ![]() He/she might be willing to take on a student, especially if he/she is older. My advice? Start by asking the tuner who services your parent's piano the questions you're asking here. And not just tune one piano over and over again, but many pianos (since they are all different and need to be approached as such). You can read, talk about, watch, listen, and think about tuning all you want, but the only way to actually get good is to do it. I do know that the only way to learn is to be mentored by someone and then just do it. I don't know much of anything about the schools.
